Michael Nesmith, member of beloved ’60s pop band The Monkees, has passed away at the age of 78 according to his family.
“With infinite love we announce that Michael Nesmith has passed away this morning in his home, surrounded by family, peacefully and of natural causes,” a statement from his family said. “We ask that you respect our privacy at this time and we thank you for the love and light that all of you have shown him and us.”
Nesmith wrote many hit songs for The Monkees including Mary Mary, The Girl I Knew Somewhere, and Circle Sky. He and fellow Monkees member Micky Dolenz just finished up their “Monkees Farwell Tour” last month. Dolenz is now the sole remaining original member.
Dolenz posted a photo on his social media to honor his late bandmate with the following caption:
“I’ve lost a dear friend and partner.
I’m so grateful that we could spend the last couple of months together doing what we loved best – singing, laughing, and doing shtick.
I’ll miss it all so much. Especially the shtick.
Rest in peace, Nez. #michaelnesmith#mickydolenz#ripmichaelnesmith#themonkees
All my love,
Micky”
Mike Nesmith will be so missed by everyone. KLOS sends our love and thoughts to his family and loved ones.
