Soundgarden officially addressed Vicky Cornell’s lawsuit against the band, denying her claims.

Chris Cornell’s widow had filed a lawsuit this past December against the rest of the band members, including Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron, and Ben Shepherd, and the band’s business manager Rit Venerus. The case alleged that the band had been “withholding hundreds of thousand of dollars in royalties” from the Cornell family. Vicky claimed that the band wanted the rights to seven unreleased songs by Chris after he passed away, although the song rights belonged to Chris according to Vicky.

According to documents obtained by Rolling Stone, Soundgarden is arguing against her claims, saying the material found was not Cornell’s solo work. They also deny withholding money from Vicky and Chris’ family, saying that they aren’t being paid at this time.

“We don’t have possession of our own creative work,” Soundgarden said in a statement.
