Eddie Money, one of the biggest hitmakers of the late ’70s and 80s, has passed away today at the age of 70.

“The Money family regrets to announce that Eddie passed away peacefully early this morning,” said a statement given to Variety by his family. “It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our loving husband and father. We cannot imagine our world without him. We are grateful that he will live on forever through his music.”

It was just last month that Money publicly announced his diagnosis of Stage 4 esophageal cancer. It had unfortunately spread to his stomach and liver.

Money experienced a string of hits with his double platinum 1978 self-titled debut, which included “Baby Hold On” and “Two Tickets to Paradise.” He also released 1982’s No Control with “Think I’m in Love” and “Shakin’.”

Money is survived by his wife Laurie and their five children, Zachary, Jessica, Joseph, Julian and Desmond.
