Roberta Flack, virtuoso singer and pianist whose voice has enchanted the world for decades, passed away yesterday at the age of 88.

Flack was most known for her No. 1 hit songs “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” and “Killing Me Softly With His Song,” which transcended the genres of soul, R&B, pop, and folk.

“We are heartbroken that the glorious Roberta Flack passed away this morning,” a statement from her rep said. “She died peacefully surrounded by her family. Roberta broke boundaries and records. She was also a proud educator.”
