Vocalist Dorothy Martin is on the rise with her Los Angeles rock band Dorothy. Just before embarking upon a tour with Joyous Wolf, she spoke with Matt Pinfield about what is keeping her busy in music.
This April, Dorothy will be releasing their third studio album “Gifts From The Holy Ghost.” Dorothy tells Matt about the album’s title, the title track, and the making of the album. Tom Morello and Trevor Lukather (Steve Lukather of Toto’s son) were some of her musician friends that contributed to the record’s process. She also explains how she strives to write inspiring lyrics to empower and uplift people while keeping the music fun.
Matt asks Dorothy about her childhood years and how she discovered her musical passion. Dorothy was born in Budapest, but it was when she moved to San Diego and found her stepfather’s vinyl collection that she became obsessed with rock. Constantly going to shows and eventually learning how to sing, she became hooked on music and realized her destiny.
Dorothy also talks about how she aims to form a connection with the audience while she performs and to help them forget their problems for a minute. You can experience this impact when Dorothy comes to town with Joyous Wolf at The House of Blues in Anaheim on May 19th!
