Teachers and principals can be metal heads too. However, parents were infuriated after Eden High School’s principal Sharon Burns posted photos of herself in full Iron Maiden gear displaying her passion for the heavy metal band. Posing for the photos, Burns is making the rock ‘n’ roll “devil horns” with her hands while standing in front of an Iron Maiden banner and license plate cover with the band’s mascot Eddie on the dashboard of the car in another picture.
Parents of the Canadian school located in St. Catherines, Ontario were outraged by the photo that they called an “allegiance to Satanic practices.” A petition titled “Eden High School Principal, Sharon Burns, Needs To Be Transferred Immediately” was launched to remove the principal and gathered 553 supporters until it was closed.
The petition’s page read:
“As concerned parents… we are deeply disturbed that the principal assigned to the school blatantly showed Satanic symbols and her allegiance to Satanic practices on her public social media platforms where all the students can see them under.
“As parents we are demanding her transfer to another school. Please replace her with another principal who aligns with the values of the families at Eden and will not sabotage the teaching or upholding of those values and will not try to introduce impressionable students to Satanic practices or symbolism.”
Fortunately, another petition began circulating called “We Need Mrs. Burns” as a counter to the former petition. The second petition has been signed by almost 20,000 supporters. This page reads:
“It is ridiculous that a couple of parents only judge her role as a principal only based on an Instagram post. Eden High School is a public school. Not a Christian school.”
