After the release of Abbey Road on September 26th, 1969, Paul McCartney death rumors began to reach a boiling point. With the album release, the most recent of the numerous “clues” to his death spread, forcing McCartney to make a statement. On this day in 1969, McCartney said “Rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated,… However, if I was dead, I’m sure I’d be the last to know.”
