Spotlight on the Community
Sunday: 6:00 AM - 7:00 AM
Spotlight on the Community, hosted by Nelkane Benton and Cythina Fox, highlights current issues in the community and offers non-profit organizations the opportunity to disseminate information regarding their organization.
Non-profit organizations are given the opportunity to increase awareness and discuss special services to the public.
Spotlight on the Community has interviewed guests ranging from the Los Angeles Unified School District, Los Angeles Board of Supervisors, and Los Angeles City Council, to guest celebrities in film, media, and entertainment industries.
Spotlight on the Community schedules a variety of guests emphasizing non-profit organizations and the current events affecting the surrounding community.

About Nelkane Benton:
Born in New York City, Nelkane Benton moved to Los Angeles in 1948. After finishing college, she began working for Bing Crosby. She remained with Mr. Crosby for 14 years prior to joining 95.5 KLOS.Ms. Benton is married to Thomas Hill, and has a daughter, Dr. Donna Benton, a clinical psychologist specializing in gerontology and a granddaughter, Dana. The rest of the family includes her 2 cats and 2 dogs (at this writing...the numbers can change at a moment’s notice).
Nelkane’s hobbies include reading, golf, and adding to her collection of recordings from the 20s, 30s, and 40s. She is also a fan of films from the 30s and 40s. Ms. Benton is listed in the Who’s Who of American Women and Who’s Who of Black Americans. She has sat on numerous advisory boards including panels for Pacific Bell and the Southern California Gas Company. She is currently a member of the Consumer Credit Counselors and the Los Angeles County Community Resource Service Corporation, which was created by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
About Cynthia Fox:
A Southern California native, Cynthia grew up listening to Dr. Demento and Flo & Eddie on KMET. In college, she fell in love with radio at campus stations KUOR, and then KXLU. Through KXLU she began a college internship at KMET in 1977. She ran the tape-delay for the General Manager's talk show, taped and edited the weekend surf reports and later that year was assigned an overnight on-air shift.
A few months later she was working overnights full-time and then in 1979 was promoted to middays.During her time at KMET she interviewed a variety of artists: Sting, Peter Gabriel, Tom Petty, the Edge of U2, David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, the Who, Lou Reed, Don Henley, Jackson Browne, Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart, Heart, REM, John Densmore of the Doors and many others.She emceed the US Festival and had an onstage role in the historic Pink Floyd "The Wall" concerts at the Sports Arena. She hosted numerous concerts at the Forum, the Santa Monica Civic and the Long Beach Arena.
