On Air Staff
Joe Reiling
Joe Reiling, one of seven children, was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio...just ask him, he'll let you know about this "Home of Aviation." Oh, and even after all these years, he's still a Cleveland Browns fan! Hey, there are those things in which we need to believe, no matter what!!! Upon graduating from the University of Dayton, Joe heeded the words attributed to Horace Greeley...he headed west.
That journey first led him to Fresno, Ca. Here in this San Joaquin Valley city, Joe was part of KFIG...as jock, news director and program director. However, Joe loves to wear sandals and he realized that he was too far from the beach for that true application.
Fortunately, an invitation to join the on-air staff at KLOS soon arrived and Joe headed south for Los Angeles. Excellent memories here: T
he many friendships, especially with his fellow jocks and fellow industry folk; interviewing The Clash, Supertramp, Steve Martin, The Talking Heads, Sammy Hagar and others; getting real goofy with Ringo at a party; he created, produced and hosted "The Local Music Show" which is now "Local Licks"; and most importantly, the birth of his daughter, Krista.

After nearly six years as a KLOS jock, Joe "pursued other interests:" working for KMET; then KNX FM; and then KLSX (while it was still playing Classic Rock). During this time Joe was also hosting his one-hour-weekly Alternative Rock Show for Armed Forces Radio. This program, which was cleverly entitled the Joe Reiling Show, was aired around the world in foreign nations and ships at sea, to an estimated audience of nearly 400 million people, both U.S. military and foreign citizens.
Yes, it was the tax dollars of all Americans that paid Joe, and he thanks you. The L.A. Times compared Joe to Robin Williams's portrayal of Airman Adrian Cronauer in "Good Morning, Vietnam," which Joe appreciates but he admits that he has toned things down a great deal...the times they have changed!
Joe has been fortunate to have met, interviewed and in some cases become friends with many performing artists. That list, including musicians, actors, comedians and others, is a bit lengthy, but "to mention a few": Ray Charles, David Crosby, Carlos Santana, Burt Bacharach, Don Henley, Freddy Mercury, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, Joey Ramone, Peter Frampton, Lee Oskar, Buddy Guy, Willie Dixon, Mick Fleetwood, B.B. King, Justin Hayward and John Lodge of The Moody Blues, Johnny Cash, Edgar Winter...and many more...including KLOS's own Jim Ladd! A bunch of good talks!
Now, echoing the words of The Beatles' "Sgt. Peppers" "It was twenty years ago" Joe returns to KLOS, and yes, "It's wonderful to be here, It's certainly a thrill. You're such a lovely audience"... and Joe's damn glad to be back!
